To transform the site into a unique and thriving precinct which integrates with its surroundings effectively, provides an improved public realm, multiple hospitality and personal services options, and enhanced amenity for the local Sorrento community.
We have developed the following project objectives to inform the planning of the site and underpin its future potential as a revitalised site.
The Shaping Sorrento Plaza engagement project aims to:
Regenerate an important local precinct
Deliver an attractive and welcoming precinct
Enhance local connectivity, that is safely accessible by car, bike and foot
Demonstrate design excellence
Cater for people at all stages in life – with offerings for families, singles, couples, retirees and more
Deliver a high-quality hospitality experience
Provide personal services and classes to service the community (e.g. yoga)
Respond to the coastline, neighbourhood and community
Invest in the local economy, providing opportunities for new and existing businesses to thrive and provide local employment and economic development
The design of the redevelopment for Sorrento Plaza aims to deliver significant benefits back to the community and will be planned based on the community engagement process.
Throughout the community engagement process we asked the community about the types of community benefit the project might deliver.
At the final Design Review Workshop, we asked the community to rank Community Benefits in order of importance, this is what they told us:
- Architectural Design Excellence
- Range of land uses
- Public realm works on the Plaza
- Public realm works on West Coast Drive
- Additional public car parking (in addition to the required commercial bays)
- Environmental Performance and Sustainability
- Sinking Power Lines
- Public Art
The Megara Project Team look forward to looking for opportunities to incorporate the Community Benefits into the proposed redevelopment.
